Usually Opening to Grace retreats take place in retreat centers, often in woodland settings, but recently I led an Opening to Grace retreat in a beautiful, spacious apartment in Manhattan.
It was much more convenient for New Yorkers to arrive by subway or taxi, especially since there was a big snowstorm that began a few hours before the retreat started. It was lovely to be warm and comfortable high above the noises of the street.
But whether in a cabin or a castle, I’m awed - still - by the healing that occurs in an Opening to Grace retreat, and by the sense that we are on holy ground. It’s one of the greatest privileges of my life to watch God’s healing work.
