What NOT to do with your dreams:
Common Mistakes of Beginners:
In past years when I introduced Gestalt dream theory in a workshop, there were always comments and questions afterward revealing that my listeners didn't fully grasp what I was saying. I have concluded that even though Gestalt dreamwork is simple, it is very different from what many already believe, and some may have trouble getting their minds around it. When workshop participants are invited to try Gestalt dreamwork for themselves, inevitable mistakes occur at first. I have learned to end my explanation with a list of "don's" to observe when trying out a Gestalt modality.
Don't tell yourself when you wake up, "It was just a dream", or "This dream isn't very important".
Don't immediately decide what a dream means before you have explored it.
Don't ignore parts of your dream that you don't like or understand.
Don't try to find yourself in a book of dream symbols.
"Doing your own dreamwork may feel exciting, daunting, and maybe even scary. You can go slowly or stop anytime you want".
