Rev. Kathryn Dickinson, GPC Minister

Kathryn is ordained in the United Methodist Church, currently serving as Minister of Spiritual Life at the Park Slope UMC in Brooklyn. She holds a BFA in theater from Southern Methodist University, an MA in Environmental Conservation from NYU, and an MDiv from Union Theological Seminary in NYC. In all her studies, Kathryn’s interest in how humans compliment and collide with the natural world searches for how we as humans relate to the natural and spiritual worlds, Her interest in the sharing and expression of people’s lives, alongside her interest

Kathryn uses her background in theater, environmental justice, theology, and the GPC healing modality to enrich her ministry of spiritual formation, helping people find worshipful ways to embody, enact, and share their personal stories. Through her “Peace Be With You: Bible, Grief, Celebration and Song Project,” she works with church musical artists to compose original songs inspired by Biblical texts that resonate with a parishioner's experience of loss and mourning. For the past 15 years, Kathryn’s annual Women in the Bible series allows participants to gather over several weeks to explore, write and share their reflections on how Biblical characters’ stories mirror and/or differ from their own. These personal testimonies culminate in a Sunday performance/sermon. In addition, Kathryn leads a weekly Taize Prayer, based on the style of prayer of the Taize monastic community in France -- finding prayer and short chants inviting us to enter God’s silence and healing.

Born into a Methodist clergy family in MIssissippi, her family made an exodus to California due to her family’s Civil Rights stance. This experience manifests in Kathryn's commitment to racial equity, to social justice, and to the  full inclusion of all God’s children within the church and society. Kathryn welcomes those in the tri-state area to meet in-person, and for those beyond the area (and during Covid restrictions), using  on-line platforms.
